Vienne became a Roman colony under Caesar about 47 BC.
I did get up in time for the hot breakfast buffet and still managed, along with another couple, to take in the town of Vienne on our own walking tour. Sa
w an ancient ampitheater which was awe-inspiring in its antiquity.Then there was the beautiful Saint-Maurice Cathedral.
We didn't really have time to explore the town as much as we would have liked because the ship was departing at 11 for the second largest city in France, Lyon.

Wonderful that you got to sleep a bit more and still see some sights on your own...gorgeous architecture. Thanks for the history fact--more please!
